The Five Wear Conditions
Every weapon skin in Counter-Strike 2 comes in one of five wear conditions. These are determined by the skin's float value — a permanent number assigned when the skin is created. The wear condition cannot be changed after the fact.
Here's what each one means.
Factory New (FN)
Float range: 0.00 – 0.07
Factory New is the best possible condition. Skins in this state show minimal to no visible wear — the paint is clean, colors are vibrant, and there are few if any scratches.
- Highest demand and highest prices across almost all skins
- Low-float FN skins (0.00x) command extreme premiums from collectors
- Not every skin can exist in Factory New — some patterns have minimum floats above 0.07
Factory New is the default choice for players who want their skins looking pristine. It's also the standard for high-end trading.
Minimal Wear (MW)
Float range: 0.07 – 0.15
Minimal Wear skins show very slight signs of use. On most skins, the difference between a high-end MW and a low-end FN is nearly invisible to the naked eye.
- Often the best value buy — visually close to FN but noticeably cheaper
- A 0.08 MW looks almost identical to a 0.06 FN on most skins
- Popular among players who want a clean look without paying the FN premium
For many skins, MW is the sweet spot between appearance and price.
Field-Tested (FT)
Float range: 0.15 – 0.38
Field-Tested is the most common wear condition. Skins show moderate wear — visible scratches, some paint chipping, and slight fading depending on the finish type.
- The widest float range of any condition (0.23 spread)
- A 0.15 FT can look nearly as clean as MW, while a 0.37 FT shows significant wear
- Most affordable for skins that don't exist in lower conditions (like the AWP Asiimov)
- Always check the exact float when buying FT — there's huge variance within this tier
Because the range is so wide, two Field-Tested skins of the same pattern can look completely different.
Well-Worn (WW)
Float range: 0.38 – 0.45
Well-Worn skins show clear, visible damage. Scratches are prominent, colors may be faded, and base metal or underlying textures are often exposed.
- Narrowest float range of any condition (0.07 spread)
- Generally the least popular condition — caught between "usable FT" and "collector BS"
- Prices are low, making WW a budget option for players who just want the skin design
- Some finishes actually look interesting at this wear level
Well-Worn is the least traded condition in most markets. It doesn't offer the clean look of higher tiers or the collector appeal of extreme Battle-Scarred.
Battle-Scarred (BS)
Float range: 0.45 – 1.00
Battle-Scarred skins show heavy wear. Paint is chipped, scratched, and faded. Large areas of the base metal or default texture are typically visible.
- Widest float range after FT (0.55 spread)
- Lowest prices for most skins, making it the budget-friendly option
- High-float BS skins (0.90+) are collected by some players for their "battle-worn" aesthetic
- Certain skins have a unique appeal at max BS — the AWP Asiimov in BS, for example, has a dedicated following
Some players specifically collect max-float Battle-Scarred skins. There's an entire niche market for the most worn-out looking versions of popular skins.
Price Differences Between Conditions
Wear condition is one of the biggest factors in skin pricing. As a general rule:
| Pattern | FN Price | MW Price | FT Price | WW Price | BS Price | |---------|----------|----------|----------|----------|----------| | Common skin | $2 | $1.50 | $1 | $0.80 | $0.60 | | Popular skin | $50 | $30 | $15 | $10 | $8 | | Rare skin | $500 | $300 | $150 | $100 | $80 |
These are rough examples to show the pattern — FN is always the most expensive, and each step down is cheaper. But the exact ratios vary heavily by skin. Some skins only exist in certain conditions, which changes the dynamics entirely.
You can check current prices for every skin in every wear condition on SkinsAtlas. Each skin detail page shows a full price breakdown by condition.
Which Condition Should You Buy?
It depends on your priorities:
- Want the cleanest look possible? Factory New, low float.
- Want great looks at a reasonable price? Minimal Wear is often the best value.
- On a budget? Field-Tested at low float (0.15–0.20) gives you a decent look for much less.
- Just want to own the skin? Battle-Scarred is the cheapest entry point.
- Collecting? Extreme floats (lowest FN or highest BS) hold collector value.
Key Takeaways
- Wear is permanent. You cannot upgrade or change a skin's condition.
- Float matters within conditions. Always check the exact float, not just the wear label.
- Not all skins come in all conditions. Check the float range on the skin's page.
- MW is often the best value. Looks close to FN at a fraction of the price.
- FT has massive variance. A low FT can look great; a high FT can look rough.
